Lanihuli in the Clouds

At the crack of dawn, the rays of the sun pierce through the clouds that shroud Lanihuli, the peak above the Nu’uanu Pali that figures prominently in the mele and hula of Hawai’i. The hanging valleys carved into the steep slopes of the peak, shelter rare native plants such as loulu hiwa, the native fan palm (Pritchardia martii), which is endemic only to the Ko’olau Mountains of O’ahu.
