Hapu’u & ‘Ohi’a in Ka’u Forest

As this hapu’u frond unfurls itself in the foreground, red lehua blossoms burst into bloom throughout much of the landscape. ‘Ohia lehua (metrosideros polymorpha) dominate the canopy in much of the mesic forests within the Ka’u Forest Reserve on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
