I hiked to Pahole Natural Area Reserve and Mokuleia Forest Reserve to visit the Kahuli or Oahu Tree Snails in the snail exclosures at Pahole and Kahanahaiki.Â
I hiked to the very back of Waikane Valley to photograph the charming streams that originate in the Koolau Mountains and flow down the landscape into Kaneohe Bay on the Koolaupoko Coast of windward Oahu.Â
I kayaked with some Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club (HTMC) friends to the Mokulua Islands off Lanikai on the Koolaupoko Coast of Oahu in preparation for our Na Pali Coast kayaking and hiking trip later this summer.Â
I kayaked to Kapapa Island with some Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club (HTMC) friends to prepare for our kayaking and hiking trip along the Na Pali Coast of Kauai. Kapapa Island is a small flat island about 2-miles offshore in the south central portion of Kaneohe Bay.Â
I explored the trails along Waikele Stream and the taro patches at Waipahu Cultural Garden Park to photograph the wildlife that live in these wetlands. Waikele Stream is a source of freshwater for Pouhala Marsh and these taro patches are just half-a-mile upriver from the marsh.
I explored the trails at Pouhala Marsh along the West Loch of Pearl Harbor to see the progress being made by conservation groups to restore this once productive coastal wetland.Â
